Martina Trevisan defeated Ann Li 6-2, 6-2 to win the Nordea Open title.
It is the Italian’s second WTA title, with her first coming in Rabat in 2022. While this tournament was at the WTA 125 level, meaning it is a rung below the regular WTA tour, this title is a significant moment in Trevisan’s career, which has suffered somewhat after a breakthrough season two years ago.
A clay-court specialist, Trevisan was rarely troubled in today’s final as she wrapped up victory with the loss of only four games.
Trevisan, ranked No 89, beat Australian Astra Sharma (5-7, 7-5, 6-3), Romanian Miriam Bulgaru (6-4, 6-4), Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the top seed (6-2, 7-6 (5)) and American Louisa Chirico (6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds, Li, ranked No 143, beat Slovak Rebecca Sramkova (6-2, 6-2), Russian Kamilla Rakhimova (6-2, 6-2), Pole Katarzyna Kawa (6-4, 6-2) and Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz (6-4, 6-4).
