Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 4 seed, defeated French lucky loser Harold Mayot 6-2, 7-5 to reach the last eight of the Atlanta Open at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Thursday evening.
Thompson, ranked No 41, will play the winner of the match between American Reilly Opelka and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 5 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Atlanta Open, Mayot, ranked No 122, won against Croat Borna Coric (7-6 (9), 6-3).
