Chinese Juncheng Shang advanced to the second round of the Citi Open by beating Swede qualifier Elias Ymer 6-4, 6-3 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.
Shang, ranked No 73, will face No 16 seed Arthur Rinderknech next.
