Citi Open: Mpetshi Perricard reaches last 16

Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the No 9 seed, defeated Finn Emil Ruusuvuori 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6) to advance to the last 16 of the Citi Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.

Mpetshi Perricard, ranked No 49, will face the winner of the match between American wildcard Reilly Opelka and Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 7 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, Ruusuvuori, ranked No 71, edged out Croat Borna Coric (6-7 (4), 7-6 (8), 6-4).
