Washington Open: Bouzkova edges Townsend to reach last eight

Marie Bouzkova defeated American Taylor Townsend 7-5, 7-6 (8) to reach the quarter-finals of the Washington Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center on Thursday night.

Bouzkova, ranked No 43, will play American wildcard Robin Montgomery next.

Marie Bouzkova won against American qualifier McCartney Kessler (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) in the previous round of the Washington tournament.

In the previous round of the Washington tournament, Townsend, ranked No 78, beat Russian Anastasia Potapova, the No 9 seed (6-2, 6-2).
