Tiafoe gets past Kovacevic in Washington

No 5 seed Frances Tiafoe won against Aleksandar Kovacevic 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Citi Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington on Thursday night.
Tiafoe, ranked No 29, will face the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the top seed, and Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, the No 16 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, Frances Tiafoe defeated Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-3).
Kovacevic, ranked No 82, won against Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, the No 11 seed (7-6 (4), 7-6 (3)) in the previous rounds of the Washington D.C. tournament.
