Anastasia Potapova, the No 5 seed, advanced to the last 8 of the Cleveland Open by defeating Dane Clara Tauson 6-2, 6-2 at Jacobs Pavilion on Wednesday evening.
Potapova, ranked No 43, will face the winner of the match between Belgian lucky loser Greet Minnen and Romanian qualifier Ana Bogdan next.
In the previous round of the Cleveland tournament, the Russian won against Frenchwoman Diane Parry (6-3, 6-2).
Tauson, ranked No 65, beat Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) during the first round of the Cleveland tournament.
