Monterrey Open: Alexandrova books spot in quarter-finals
Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated Renata Zarazua 6-3, 6-4 at Monterrey Open on Wednesday and will face Yue Yuan in the quarter-finals

Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova advanced to the quarter-finals of the Monterrey Open by defeating Mexico’s Renata Zarazua 6-3, 6-4 at Sonoma Club on Wednesday.
Alexandrova hit a staggering 17 aces and broke Zarazua twice during the match. This was notably the first-ever duel between the two players.
Alexandrova, the third seed, received a bye in the first round, whereas Zarazua overcame fellow Mexican Victoria Rodriguez 6-1, 6-4 in her Monterrey opener.
Alexandrova’s next challenge will be China’s Yuan Yue, who beat Croatia’s Petra Martic in her previous match. Alexandrova and Yuan most recently met in the first round of the Paris Olympics, where the latter registered a 7-5, 6-7(0), 6-2 win.
