Almaty Open: Khachanov edges Virtanen to make quarters
Karen Khachanov defeated Otto Virtanen 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) on Thursday night and will play Kazakh wildcard Beibit Zhukayev in the next round

Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 3 seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Almaty Open by winning against Finn Otto Virtanen 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) at Almaty Arena on Thursday night.
Khachanov, ranked No 26, will play Kazakh wildcard Beibit Zhukayev next.
In the previous round of the Almaty tournament, Virtanen, ranked No 116, defeated Italian Fabio Fognini (6-3, 7-6 (4)).
