Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo, the No 6 seed, advanced to the last eight of the WTA $125K Abierto Tampico by defeating Russian Polina Kudermetova 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday.
Sorribes Tormo, ranked No 112, will face German Tatjana Maria, the No 4 seed, next.
The Spaniard won against Mexican wildcard Ana Sofia Sanchez (6-0, 6-1) in the previous round.
Earlier in the week, Kudermetova, ranked No 127, won against Australian Astra Sharma (6-1, 6-4).
