Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic won the Jiangxi Open trophy by defeating Slovak Rebecca Sramkova, the second seed, 6-3, 7-5 on Sunday.
It marks the second WTA singles title for the 32-year-old Swiss and her first in eight years (previous title came in Gstaad in 2016).
With the win, Golubic improves to 4-0 lifetime against Sramkova, having not dropped a set to her Slovak rival in all their encounters.
Ahead of her win today, Golubic, ranked No 168 in the world, beat Chinese qualifier Xiaodi You (7-5, 6-2), Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, the No 4 seed (6-2 ret.), Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 6 seed (7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (5)) and top seed Marie Bouzkova (6-1, 6-2).
Sramkova, ranked No 53, beat Chinese wildcard Shuai Zhang (6-1, 6-1), Chinese Sijia Wei (7-5, 6-3), Italian Martina Trevisan (6-3, 3-6, 6-2) and German Laura Siegemund (7-6 (4), 6-2) earlier in the week.
Having never reached a final until early September, Sramkova has made three finals on the tour in the last two months. She has now won 17 of her last 21 matches on the tour.
