Mexican Renata Zarazua, the top seed, won against Russian Alina Charaeva 6-2, 7-6 (5) to advance to the last 16 of the Fifth Third Charleston 125 2 on Tuesday.
Zarazua, ranked No 60, will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Irene Burillo Escorihuela and Georgian qualifier Ekaterine Gorgodze next.
