American Varvara Lepchenko moved into the last eight of the Open In Arte Angers Loire by winning against Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse, the No 8 seed, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5) on Wednesday evening.
Lepchenko, ranked No 138, will face Dominika Salkova next.
In the previous round, the 38-year-old American defeated Dutchwoman Anouk Koevermans (6-4, 3-6, 6-3).
Ruse, ranked No 126, beat qualifier Ipek Oz (6-4, 6-2) during the 32.
