Hobart International: Mertens moves into semi-finals

Belgian Elise Mertens, the second seed, won against Russian Veronika Kudermetova 6-1, 0-6, 6-2 to reach the semi-finals of the Hobart International at the Hobart ’s Domain Tennis Centre on Thursday.
Mertens, ranked No 34, will face Australian wildcard Maya Joint next.
The Belgian defeated Spanish qualifier Nuria Parrizas Diaz (6-3, 6-1) and Mexican lucky loser Renata Zarazua (6-4, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Hobart tournament, Kudermetova, ranked No 77, won against Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (7-5, 6-0) and Colombian Camila Osorio (6-4, 6-1).
