Dubai Open: O’Connell into round two as Dimitrov retires through injury

Australian qualifier Christopher O’Connell advanced to the second round of the Dubai Open when Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 6 seed, retired on Tuesday evening at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre.

O’Connell, ranked No 75, led 6-0 when Dimitrov, ranked No 16, pulled out on Tuesday evening at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre.

The Australian will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Gael Monfils and Italian Matteo Berrettini next.
