Monteiro secures spot in Santiago second round
Thiago Monteiro battled past Juan Manuel Cerundolo in three sets on Tuesday in Santiago. Monteiro awaits either Nicolas Jarry or Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the second round.

Brazilian Thiago Monteiro advanced to the second round of the Chile Open by edging out Argentinian qualifier Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (2) at the Club Universidad Católica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago de Chile on Tuesday evening.
The left-hander came back from a break down in the third set to prevail after two hours and 51 minutes.
Monteiro, ranked No 108, will next play the winner of a match between Chilean Nicolas Jarry, the No 7 seed, and Argentinian Camilo Ugo Carabelli.
