Machac to replace injured Fritz at Bastide Médical UTS Nîmes
‘The Air Machete’ won on his UTS debut in Guadalajara earlier this year

Czech Tomas Machac will have the opportunity to win back-to-back UTS titles this week after he was added to the field for the inauguaral Bastide Médical UTS Nîmes.
The “The Air Machete”, who won on his UTS debut in Guadalajara in February, replaces Taylor Fritz for the April 4-5 event, which will be played at the historic amphitheatre Les Arènes de Nîmes.
Fritz, the 2023 UTS Los Angeles runner-up, aggravated an abdominal injury during his run to the Miami Open semi-finals, where he lost to eventual champion Jakub Mensik, and won’t be fit to compete in the fast-paced event.

Machac – Monfils in quarter finals
“I was super excited to come back to the UTS Tour after I made the final in Los Angeles in 2023,” Fritz said. “Unfortunately, I aggravated an abdominal injury during my semi-final match in Miami, and I will not be able to recover in time to compete in Bastide Médical UTS Nîmes this week. I was really looking forward to play in this iconic venue and can’t wait to be back on UTS soon!”
Machac will begin his campaign in Nîmes against home-favourite ‘La Monf’ Gael Monfils in the quarter-finals on Saturday, April 4.
