Australian Christopher O’Connell reached the second round of the Madrid Masters by defeating Argentinian Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-3, 6-4 at the Caja Mágica on Wednesday.
O’Connell, ranked No 87, will face No 3 seed Taylor Fritz next.
