Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, won against American Tommy Paul, the No 11 seed, 1-6, 6-0, 6-3 to reach the final of the Rome Masters at the Foro Italico in Roma on Friday evening.

Sinner, ranked No 1, will face Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the No 3 seed, next.

In the previous rounds of the Italian Open, the Italian defeated Argentinian Mariano Navone (6-3, 6-4), Dutch lucky loser Jesper De Jong (6-4, 6-2), Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 17 seed (7-6 (2), 6-3) and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 6 seed (6-0, 6-1).

Paul, ranked No 12, beat Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut (6-1, 6-4), No 19 seed Tomas Machac (6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-4), Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 7 seed (7-5, 6-3) and Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 30 seed (7-6 (4), 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
