‘Confident’ Djokovic advances to 20th Roland-Garros third round after Moutet encounter
Novak Djokovic won against Corentin Moutet 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (1) on Thursday evening. He’ll play the winner of the match between Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 27 seed, and Austrian qualifier Filip Misolic in the next round

Serb Novak Djokovic, the No 6 seed, won against Frenchman Corentin Moutet 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (1) to move into the third round of Roland-Garros at Roland-Garros in Paris on Thursday evening.
Djokovic took a medical timeout to treat a blister on his left foot in a very competitive third set, but played a clinical tiebreak to close out the match.
The former world No 1 is the second male singles player to reach the third round on 20 occasions at a single Grand Slam event (Roger Federer has 21 at the Australian Open).
Before Geneva, I wasn’t very confident in my game, but now I’m better
“I had to be mentally very focused to play against a player like Corentin,” analysed Djokovic.
“It was a great battle, especially in the third set where he had a set point. My serve really helped me today; overall, I played well and I stayed calm. Before Geneva, I wasn’t very confident in my game, but now I’m better.”
Djokovic, ranked No 6, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 27 seed, and Austrian qualifier Filip Misolic next.
In the previous round of the Roland-Garros 2025, the 38-year-old Serb defeated American Mackenzie McDonald (6-3, 6-3, 6-3).
Moutet, ranked No 73, won against qualifier Clement Tabur (6-3, 7-6 (6), 6-3) in the previous round of the Roland-Garros 2025.
