Roland-Garros: Kasatkina defeats Badosa in the third round
Daria Kasatkina won against Paula Badosa 6-1, 7-5 on Saturday and will face Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 6 seed, in the next round

Daria Kasatkina from Australia advanced to the Round of 16 at Roland-Garros for the fourth time in her career by defeating Paula Badosa 6-1, 7-5 on Saturday morning.
This is the second time this season that Daria Kasatkina has reached this stage of a Grand Slam, after making it to the Round of 16 at the Australian Open in January 2025, where she was defeated by American Emma Navarro.
By beating Paula Badosa this Saturday, the Australian player earned the 24th Top 10 victory of her career, and her first since the Eastbourne tournament in 2024.
The past few weeks have been difficult for me, and I’m happy to be back in form
Kasatkina had only won two matches in her previous four tournaments, but she found her form at the right time to reach the second week at Roland-Garros, where she reached the semifinals in 2022—her best Grand Slam result to date.
“I was ready for a very tough match, she’s a Top 10 player. I’m very proud of myself—I managed to fight in the second set to get the win today. The past few weeks have been difficult for me, and I’m happy to be back in form, especially here at a tournament that means a lot to me,” Kasatkina said after her victory.
Kasatkina, ranked No 17, will face Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 6 seed, next.
The Australian defeated Katerina Siniakova (6-1, 3-6, 6-2) and French wildcard Leolia Jeanjean (6-4, 6-2) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Badosa, ranked No 10, edged out Japanese Naomi Osaka (6-7 (1), 6-1, 6-4) and Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse (3-6, 6-4, 6-4).
