Coco Gauff’s streak of reaching the Roland-Garros quarter-finals continues! On Monday, the American player qualified for the last eight of the Paris Grand Slam for the fifth consecutive time, comfortably defeating Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No. 20 seed, 6-0, 7-5.

In the first set, there was only one player on Court Philippe-Chatrier. With just three winners and 15 unforced errors, Ekaterina Alexandrova had a disastrous start against a completely in-control Coco Gauff.

The match became more balanced in the second set, as the Russian finally managed to raise her level of play. But she lost her serve at the worst possible moment, at 5-5, and Coco Gauff was able to close it out in the following game on her second match point.

Gauff follow Venus’ steps

Coco Gauff (21 years and 73 days) has become the fourth-youngest player in the Open Era to reach at least five consecutive Women’s Singles quarter-finals at Roland Garros, with only Martina Hingis, Steffi Graf, and Conchita Martinez having done so at a younger age.

The American is also the youngest player to reach at least five Women’s Singles quarter-finals at the same Grand Slam tournament since Venus Williams (21 years and 71 days) at the US Open in 2001.

Gauff, ranked No 2, will play the winner of the match between No 7 seed Madison Keys and Hailey Baptiste next.

Earlier in the tournament, the 21-year-old American beat Australian Olivia Gadecki (6-2, 6-2), qualifier Tereza Valentova (6-2, 6-4) and Marie Bouzkova (6-1, 7-6 (3)).

Alexandrova, ranked No 20, won against Italian Lucia Bronzetti (6-3, 6-2), Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-1, 6-3) and Veronika Kudermetova (6-2, 6-2) in the previous rounds.
