Jannik Sinner had no trouble reaching the last four of Roland-Garros yet again, defeating fellow quarter-finalist Alexander Bublik 6-1, 7-5, 6-0.

The Italian has now won 19 consecutive Grand Slam matches, having also not dropped a set along the way – next facing either Novak Djokovic or Alexander Zverev.

Aside from the world No 1’s win, another key storyline from Thursday’s day session at the Parisian Grand Slam was that of Lois Boisson.

World No 361 Lois Boisson, after defeating Mirra Andreeva 7-6(8), 6-3, became just the third woman to reach the semi-finals of the singles event at Roland-Garros on their debut.

Additionally, she became the first Frenchwoman since 2011 to reach the last four of the Parisian Grand Slam.

As a result, Boisson will rise up in the ranking by, at least, a stunning 296 places – to the world No 65 spot – and is guaranteed to be placed as the highest-ranked Frenchwoman come Monday – when the updated standings are released.

Sinner: “[Boisson] is exactly what France needs.”

As expected at a home Grand Slam, the Frenchwoman is on the lips of every journalist at the complex of Roland-Garros – with the first question put to Sinner surrounding his thoughts on Boisson herself.

“Yeah, it’s amazing, no? I think that’s exactly what France needs, you know, something very new, very special, great mentality,” replied the Italian.

“I think she’s someone who is quite calm on the court, at least she seems like it. She had knee surgery not long ago, so even that, you know, gives her some great confidence hopefully for her future. “

The three-time Grand Slam champion also revealed that he has hit with Boisson on multiple occasions in the past, and was highly impressed with her forehand and overall clay-court style.

“We actually were in the same center for a little while back in the days, and we practiced, you know, sometimes together even there,” remarked Sinner.

“So I know her. It’s now already a time ago. I saw her before the tournament in the gym in Jean Bouin.

“We talked a little bit how things are, and she was very happy. Having a wildcard here, it’s a special tournament for her, being French. Yeah, I think the level she produces is amazing, no? Very consistent. Very clay court style, you know, with the forehand, a lot of topspin.

“Today it was raining, so I called here, the desk, you know, if there was some free spot, because I don’t want to risk to go on court without warming up. So we arrived here quite early. Yeah, she said straightaway yes, and we hit some balls. It was a very consistent warmup for a different game style for a woman, because the ball is quite high and quite spinny. Physically very strong.

“She deserves to be in the position where she is right now, and we wish her all the best for the future.”
