Jannik Sinner is eager to move on as quickly as he can from his loss in the final of Roland-Garros 2025 to Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday.

The Italian had three match points in Paris, but ultimately fell in a fifth set tiebreak in what was the longest French Open final in history.

Speaking to media after the match, a deflated Sinner suggested that all he could do is learn and move on.

“We try to delete it somehow and take the positive and keep going,” he said. “There are no other ways.

“Obviously this one hurts. There’s not so much to talk right now. But, I’m happy how we are trying to improve every day and trying to put myself in these kind of positions. It’s a very high-level match, that’s for sure. So happy to be part of this. But yeah, the final result hurts.”

Sinner to spend time with family before switching to grass

Sinner intends to play a full grass court schedule, with the world No 1 due to compete at the Halle Open in a week’s time. Between now and then, however, the 23-year-old will be drawing on his loved ones to recover.

“Now it’s my time to take something from the close people I have,” he explained.

“My family, the people who know me, now they are helping me, no? It’s a giving at times, and sometimes you take something, no? They would for sure be happy that I come back home with my family, with everyone.

“We are just a very simple family, you know. My dad was not here because he was working today. Nothing of our success changes in the family.

“As I always said before my career started, I never would have thought to find myself in this position. Was not even a dream because it was so far and was not thinking about this.

“Now I find myself here, playing the longest match in history of Roland Garros in a final. It hurts this yes, but in other way you cannot keep going crying, you know… So it happens.”

Sinner taking positives from loss

Already, Sinner is finding positives in his tough loss, pointing towards his increased level since losing to Alcaraz in Rome.

“Thinking or seeing my level today, it has improved since Rome, which as I said before the match, was my main goal to see where my level is at,” he said. “I have improved as a player since last year, which is good. So we try to keep pushing.

“It’s good to see that we can produce also tennis like this, because I think it’s good for the whole movement of tennis and the crowd. It was a good atmosphere today, no, and also to be part of it, it’s very special.

“Of course, I’m happy to be part of this. Would be even more happy if I would have here the big trophy. But, yeah, as I said, you can’t change it now.”
