Solana Sierra beat Spaniard Cristina Bucsa 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 to move into the last 16 of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
The Argentine only found out she would be competing in this year’s main draw 15 minutes prior to her first match, sneaking into the field as a lucky loser after a late pull-out from Belgian Greet Minnen.
Sierra, ranked No 101, will face the winner of the match between German Laura Siegemund and American Madison Keys, the No 6 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 21-year-old Argentinian defeated Australian Olivia Gadecki (6-2, 7-6 (8)) and Katie Boulter (6-7 (7), 6-2, 6-1).
Bucsa, ranked No 102, beat Romanian Anca Todoni (6-4, 6-4) and Croat Donna Vekic, the No 22 seed (6-1, 6-3) in the previous rounds of The Championships.
