Citi Open: Nakashima first to reach 2025 last 16

No 14 seed Brandon Nakashima won against wildcard Ethan Quinn 6-3, 6-4 in a 100% American battle to advance to the last 16 of the Citi Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington on Tuesday.

Nakashima, ranked No 32, will play the winner of the match between Englishman Cameron Norrie and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the second seed, next.

Nakashima equals his best result in Washington by reaching third round for third time (2021, 2024).

In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, Quinn, ranked No 86, defeated Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-3, 6-2). He is still searching for his first win against a Top 30.

Tuesday at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center will see the remaining five first-round matches and the start of
the second round with 3 Top 10 players in action, including World No. 8 Ben Shelton. American takes on his countryman Mackenzie McDonald, who reached his only ATP Tour final at Mubadala Citi DC Open four years ago. Shelton is playing in his first event since advancing to Wimbledon quarter-finals (l. to No. 1 Sinner).
