Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 9 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Citi Open by winning against Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka 6-2, 7-6 (3) at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington on Wednesday night.
Cobolli, ranked No 18, will face the winner of the match between Aleksandar Kovacevic and No 6 seed Frances Tiafoe next.
Nishioka, ranked No 89, beat American Jenson Brooksby (6-4, 5-7, 6-1) in the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament.
