Japanese Naomi Osaka advanced to the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open by winning against Latvian Anastasija Sevastova 6-1, 6-0 in only 49 minutes at the IGA Stadium in Montreal on Sunday. It’es the second quickest win in her career!
Osaka will play the winner of the match between American Amanda Anisimova, the No 5 seed, and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 10 seed, next.
The Japanese will play her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal since Doha 2024. “I had a solid plan coming in here, she said after the win. “It just happened to work out really well. This is the kind of result you’re looking for.”
Sevastova, now ranked No 387, had just won against American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-1).
