Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 8 seed, edged out American Jenson Brooksby 6-7 (6), 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Swiss Indoors at the St. Jakobshalle. in Basel on Wednesday evening.
Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 18, will play the winner of the match between Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 4 seed, and Swiss wildcard Stan Wawrinka next.
The Spaniard won against Italian Lorenzo Sonego (7-6 (2), 6-4) in the previous round of the Basel tournament.
In the previous round of the Basel tournament, Brooksby, ranked No 55, just back from his final at UTS Hong Kong, defeated Frenchman Alexandre Muller (6-4, 6-3).
