Musetti secures unforgettable victory over De Minaur to stay alive in ATP Finals

Lorenzo Musetti defeated Alex de Minaur 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 in a gripping encounter that set the Inalpi Arena alight. De Minaur, who served for the match, remains without a win at the ATP Finals.

Technically, Musetti has yet to secure qualification and could still be eliminated in the round-robin stage. However, he experienced one of the most emotional moments of his career in Turin by overcoming De Minaur on day two (7-5, 3-6, 7-5) in 2 hours and 50 minutes, a result which leaves all scenarios open for Alcaraz, Fritz, Musetti, and De Minaur ahead of day three.

Drained by an exhausting schedule – including four matches last week in Athens and a marathon final against Djokovic on Saturday – Musetti summoned every ounce of resilience to claim the win, despite De Minaur appearing to have the upper hand after the second set.

The Australian led 5-3 in the third and served for the match at 5-4, but Musetti rallied, winning the last four games in front of an electrified Turin crowd. The match culminated in a stunning match point – a cross-court forehand passing shot high into the corner – as De Minaur attempted to repeat a service-forehand sequence that had saved him a match point minutes earlier.

“I think today at a certain point of the match I was really struggling physically”, Musetti said. “Alex raised the level and intensity. I was struggling to find solutions. But then with a big heart, with big passion for this game.. I don’t know from where.. I started to feel better and to play better. The support of the crowd is literally amazing. I have to thank them all.”

“I think I improved a lot on the mental side. Of course I’m pushing myself to the limit. I’m playing every match with the top players. I knew that. The next one coming is against Carlos.. So I know how difficult it is. Especially in these conditions. I’ll try to enjoy and fight like I’ve done today.”
