British star Katie Boulter completed her resurgence on Saturday evening, coming from a set down to defeat Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 and capture the Ostrava Open title. The victory marks a vital turning point for the 29-year-old, securing her fourth career WTA singles title and her first trophy since defending her Nottingham crown in June 2024.
Ranked No. 120 entering the tournament after an injury-plagued 2025 season, Boulter demonstrated elite resilience throughout the week in the Czech Republic. Her path to the final included clinical victories over American Katie Volynets (6-1, 6-3), local favorite Linda Fruhvirtova (6-3, 6-2), and a dominant upset of the fifth-seeded Viktorija Golubic (6-2, 6-2). In the semi-finals, she outlasted rising Czech star Lucie Havlickova 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to set up the clash with Korpatsch.
The final was a battle of attrition that lasted nearly two hours. Korpatsch, ranked No. 124, had reached the final without dropping a set, having upset second seed Emiliana Arango and sixth seed Catherine McNally. While the German snatched a tight opening set, Boulter’s superior serving eventually took hold.
The win is particularly poignant as it marks the first title under her new coach, Michael Joyce, the former mentor of Maria Sharapova. Following the match, an emotional Boulter dedicated the win to her team.
“I’d like to start with my team. We’re only a few weeks into business right now Mickey, but we’ve got one in the bag. And it was on your birthday week! Massive week for you, 53 years old, big one! So that was your present to you,” Boulter said during the trophy ceremony. “To my stable team… my whole family back home, everyone close to me knows how hard this last year has been for me. To kind of get today, it makes it all worth it.”
This triumph will propel Boulter back into the global elite, as she is projected to rise to world No. 84 in the WTA rankings on Monday.
