Ben Shelton secured a hard-fought measure of redemption on Friday night at the Nexo Dallas Open, overcoming veteran Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 7-6(2), 6-7(4), 6-3 to reach the final eight.
For the second-seeded American, the victory carried significant emotional weight, serving as “revenge” for his disappointing retirement against Mannarino during the 2025 US Open third round. In that encounter, a leg injury forced the young American to stop mid-match, but on the indoor hard courts of Dallas, his physical durability and trademark power were on full display.
The world number 9 fired 23 aces and won 77% of his first-serve points to neutralize Mannarino’s tricky left-handed craftiness. After splitting two high-quality tiebreak sets, Shelton found an extra gear in the decider, breaking twice and maintaining his composure after the secon break to close out the contest in two hours and 43 minutes.
Having previously dismissed Canadian Gabriel Diallo in straight sets, Shelton appears to be finding a good form as he enters the business end of the tournament. He now awaits a blockbuster clash against Miomir Kecmanovic, who defeated either fifth seed Tommy Paul (5-7, 6-4, 6-4).
The quarter-final bracket in Dallas is now fully set following a high-octane Friday.
