Sabalenka thrashes Cristian to reach Indian Wells last 16

Aryna Sabalenka secured a convincing victory over Jaqueline Cristian on Sunday evening. She won 6-4, 6-1 to become the first player into the fourth round. The world No 1 required only 72 minutes to complete the win.

The world No 1 reached her 41st round of 16 at this level. She now trails only Victoria Azarenka and Karolina Pliskova among active players at this rankings. This achievement underlines her consistent dominance in the biggest tournaments.

Sabalenka displayed massive superiority during the most critical moments of the match. Both players faced six break points throughout the contest. However, the top seed saved five of these opportunities to stay in control.

The Belarusian top seed now awaits her next opponent. She will face either Camila Osorio or 16th seed Naomi Osaka.
