‘That level was insane’ – Fils demolishes Tsitsipas as Vacherot also advances in Miami’s night session
Arthur Fils was unstoppable in Miami on Sunday night, crushing Tsitsipas 6-0, 6-1 in 55 minutes. “That level was insane,” the French No. 28 seed said after the match. Next: Valentin Vacherot.

The Miami Openproduced its most one-sided night of the week on Sunday, as French seed No. 28 Arthur Fils dismantled Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-0, 6-1 in 55 minutes and Monégasque seed No. 24 Valentin Vacherot edged Italian Matteo Berrettini 7-6(5), 6-4 to send both men into the last 16.
Fils was breathtaking on the Center Court. He won 89 per cent of his first-serve points, saved both break points he faced and capitalised on 28 unforced errors from Tsitsipas – a player who had arrived in the third round on the back of a commanding win over seed No. 5 Alex de Minaur of Australia.
Fils : “I’ve played some matches before but…”
“That’s one of the best matches I’ve ever played,” Fils said after the match. “I have played some great matches before, but this level was insane. I don’t know what to say, but very happy with the performance.”
There was no answer from the Greek. Fils, ranked No. 31, extended his head-to-head lead over Tsitsipas to 5-0 and became the first Frenchman to reach the Miami last 16 in consecutive years since Gaël Monfils in 2015 and 2016.
Fils reached the third round after beating American wild card Darwin Blanch 6-2, 6-3 in the previous round. Tsitsipas, ranked No. 51, had beaten British qualifier Arthur Fery 6-1, 7-6(4) and then seed No. 5 De Minaur 6-3, 7-6(3) to reach the last 32. Fils will face Vacherot in the fourth round.
Vacherot grinds down Berrettini
The night’s other match was tighter for the player from Monaco. Vacherot, ranked No. 25, took the opening set in a tiebreak before breaking Berrettini midway through the second to close out the match in one hour and 31 minutes.
The win was Vacherot’s tenth tour-level victory of the season and continued a remarkable run since his 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters title, which had transformed his standing on the circuit. The Monégasque reached the last 16 at three of his four Masters 1000 events since that breakthrough.
Berrettini, ranked No. 68, had arrived in the third round with momentum – straight-set wins over Frenchman Alexandre Muller and seed No. 10 Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan – but could not sustain it against a player at his own career high.
