Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from Queen’s and Wimbledon, ruling himself out of the grass-court season as he continues to recover from the right-wrist injury that has kept him off Tour since mid-April.
The two-time defending Wimbledon champion announced the decision on his Instagram account on Tuesday, in a post written in Spanish and English.
“My recovery is going well and I’m feeling much better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to compete, which is why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen’s and Wimbledon. They are two truly special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot. We’ll keep working to come back as soon as possible.”
Still ne return date
Alcaraz, 22, has not played since the first round of the Barcelona Open on 14 April, where he picked up the tenosynovitis injury that has since cost him Madrid, Rome and Roland-Garros. The Wimbledon withdrawal means he will miss consecutive Grand Slams for the first time since 2019.
Queen’s begins on 15 June, with Wimbledon following from 29 June to 12 July. Alcaraz won Queen’s last year and reached the Wimbledon final, where he lost to Jannik Sinner. Alcaraz will lose 3800 of his 11.960 ATP points these next eight weeks.
No return date has been set.
