Eastbourne International: Pliskova reaches last 16 as Mertens retires in third set
Karolina Pliskova benefited from the abandonment of Elise Mertens (6-7 (3), 6-3, 3-0) on Monday and will face the winner of the match between Russian Daria Kasatkina and Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina in the next round

Czech Karolina Pliskova advanced to the last 16 of the Eastbourne International when Belgian Elise Mertens retired at Devonshire Park Lawn Club on Monday.
Pliskova, ranked No 18, led 6-7 (3), 6-3, 3-0 when Mertens, ranked No 28, pulled out at Devonshire Park Lawn Club on Monday.
The Czech will face the winner of the match between Russian Daria Kasatkina and Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina next.
