Newly-crowned Melbourne Summer Set champion Amanda Anisimova says she hopes Darren Cahill will coach her through the Australian Open this month.
The American revealed she was working with Simona Halep’s former coach ahead of her final against Aliaksandra Sasnovich – which she won 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.
And she told journalists afterwards that she has her fingers crossed that their collaboration will continue.
“We’re really just taking it one day at a time, and yeah, we’ll come up with a plan,” she said in her press conference. “If he’s available and free to be with me through the Australian Open, then I’d be glad to, but I know he has some TV stuff, so we’ll just talk about it and we’ll see, but I’m really hoping that he’ll be able to.
“I had a really good time with him this week, and other than being a really great coach, he’s also an amazing person, so just having him in my corner has been really great.”
The 20-year-old beat third seed Daria Kasatkina and fifth seed Sorana Cirstea, both in straight sets, en route to the final.
This trophy is her first on the WTA Tour since winning the Copa Colsanitas on clay back in April 2019.
