WTA rankings: Coco’s career high, Ons on the up

Ons Jabeur is the week’s biggest winner on the WTA rankings – up to a new career high of world No 3 as she takes home the trophy in Berlin.

The Tunisian won the title there in unfortunate fashion as her good friend Belinda Bencic retired from the final through injury.

Sakkari soars, #5

Elsewhere in the top 10, nobody is within touching distance of Iga Swiatek in the world No 1 spot, but Maria Sakkari, the Berlin semi-finalist, has moved up one place, to world No 5.

The Greek reached the quarter-finals in Nottingham last week as the top seed, and went one better in Birmingham.

The Birmingham champion Beatriz Haddad Maia breaks into the Top 30 after a sensational start to her grass-court season, with ten wins in a row. She’s unbeaten in the UK so far this year as she heads to Eastbourne having won the singles and doubles in Nottingham as well.
