Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena reached the second round of the Croatia Open by winning against Swiss Henri Laaksonen 6-4, 7-5 at the ITC Stella Maris in Umag on Monday evening.
Carballes Baena, ranked No 86, will face the winner of the match between Slovak Alex Molcan, the No 5 seed, and Croat wildcard Duje Ajdukovic next.
