An amazing Slam for China continued as Shuai Zhang moved into the last 16 of the US Open by winning against Canadian Rebecca Marino 6-2, 6-4 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Friday.
Zhang, ranked No 36, will face the winner of the match between No 20 seed Madison Keys and No 12 seed Coco Gauff next.
The 33-year-old Chinese defeated Swiss Jil Teichmann, the No 30 seed (6-4, 6-2) and Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (7-5, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
Marino, ranked No 106, beat Pole Magdalena Frech (6-2, 6-3) and Ukrainian qualifier Daria Snigur (6-3, 7-6 (5)), who was Simona Halep’s vanquisher.
