Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 7 seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Japan Open by defeating Croat Borna Coric, the No 9 seed, 6-4, 6-3 at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Friday.
Shapovalov, ranked No 22, will face American Taylor Fritz, the No 3 seed, next.
The Canadian won against American Steve Johnson (6-3, 7-6 (3)) and Japanese qualifier Rio Noguchi (6-3, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Coric, ranked No 28, won against Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis (6-4, 7-6 (4)) and American Brandon Nakashima (7-5, 6-2).
