Italian Jasmine Paolini won against German Jule Niemeier 7-5, 7-5 to reach the semi-finals of the Transylvania Open by Verdino on Friday.
Paolini, ranked No 78, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz and Chinese Xiyu Wang, the No 7 seed, next.
The Italian edged out Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 6 seed (5-7, 6-3, 6-4) and defeated Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (6-4, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Niemeier, ranked No 74, beat Romanian Ana Bogdan, the No 3 seed (7-6 (5), 6-2) and Russian qualifier Kamilla Rakhimova (6-4, 6-4).
