ATP Rankings: Medvedev back in top 3; Auger-Aliassime back to career-high

Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal hold on to the top two positions and are the favourites for the year-end No 1 ranking

Russia’s Daniil Medvedev is back in the world’s top 3 after winning his second title of the season at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna on Sunday. The 26-year-old moves up one spot and remains behind only Carlos Alcaraz at No 1 and Rafael Nadal at No 2 in the ATP rankings for the week of October 31st.

Norway’s Casper Ruud, who suffered an early loss in Basel last week, drops one spot to No 4 in the ATP rankings while Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic hold on to the No 5, 6 and 7 positions respectively.

Basel champion Felix Auger-Aliassime climbs one spot to No 8, equalling his career-best ranking that he first achieved in August 2022. The 22-year-old Canadian has now won three titles in a row and is in a good position to qualify for the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin.

Russai’s Andrey Rublev drops one spot to No 9 while Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz climbs one to No 10 as he swaps positions with American Taylor Fritz, who drops to No 11 this week.

Alcaraz, Nadal, Tsitsipas and Ruud are the four players with a chance to end the season as world No 1.

Weekend finalist Shapovalov and Rune also make big gains in this week’s ATP rankings

Vienna runner-up Denis Shapovalov moves up three spots to No 16 while Danis teen Holger Rune, who finished runner-up in Basel, jumped seven spots to a new career-high of No 18.

There are some big moves for French players as well this week. Arthur Rinderknech becomes the French No 1 after moving up nine spots to No 42 thanks to a quarter-final finish in Basel.

Ugo Humbert climbs 15 spots to No 88 after qualifying and reaching the second round in Basel while Gregoire Barrere jumps 17 spots to No 93 after winning the ATP Challenger in Brest, France.

Former world No 3 Dominic Thiem climbs 13 spots to No 100, returning to the top 100 for the first time since May this year.
