Nadal out for 6 to 8 weeks due to leg injury that hampered his Australian Open campaign

World No 2 Rafael Nadal has confirmed that he will be out for six to eight weeks due to the leg injury that restricted his movement during his second round loss to American Mackenzie McDonald at the Australian Open on Wednesday.
The Spaniard, the player with the most Grand Slam singles titles in mens’s tennis history, posted on social media that his “MRI shows a grade 2 lesion in the iliopsoas of his left leg”.
“Good afternoon. I have carried out medical tests after the defeat yesterday,” Nadal said in his tweet. “The MRI shows a grade 2 lesion in the iliopsoas of my left leg. Now it’s sports rest and anti-inflammatory physiotherapy. Normal recovery time 6 to 8 weeks.”
Nadal went down in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 to McDonald on Wednesday, ending his Australian Open defence in the second round.
The Spaniard was scheduled to play the Dubai Open at the end of February but it looks like he will noe return only in time for the Indian Wells Masters Series event.
With the loss, Nadal is also projected to drop out of the top 5 and be ranked No 6 in the rankings after the Australian Open.
