Swede qualifier Rebecca Peterson reached the second round of the Mérida Open by winning against Argentinian Nadia Podoroska 6-3, 7-5 at the Yucatan Country Club on Tuesday.
Peterson, ranked No 140, will face the winner of the match between Mexican wildcard Fernanda Contreras Gomez and American Alycia Parks, the No 5 seed, next.
