Swede Rebecca Peterson upset in-form Swiss Jil Teichmann 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the last 16 of the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Sunday.
Peterson, ranked No 103, will face the winner of the match between American Coco Gauff, the No 6 seed, and Czech Linda Noskova next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Swede edged out Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (7-5, 5-7, 7-5) and benefited from the abandonment of Chinese Shuai Zhang, the No 22 seed (3-0).
Teichmann, ranked No 39, beat American qualifier Ashlyn Krueger (6-1, 6-4) and No 9 seed Belinda Bencic (3-6, 6-3, 6-3) in the previous rounds.
