BMW Open: Giron reaches quarter-finals

American Marcos Giron won against Swiss qualifier Alexander Ritschard 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to move into the last 8 of the BMW Open at the MTTC Iphitos complex in Munich on Thursday.
Giron, ranked No 68, will play the winner of the match between Russian qualifier Aslan Karatsev and Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, the No 4 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Munich Open, the American defeated Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, the No 7 seed (6-1, 5-7, 6-2).
Ritschard, ranked No 209, beat German Jan-Lennard Struff (7-5, 7-5) in the previous round of the Munich Open.
