American Caty McNally, the No 7 seed, reached the last 16 of the Catalonia Open by defeating Spanish wildcard Irene Burillo Escorihuela 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
McNally, ranked No 69, will face Argentinian Nadia Podoroska next.
