American Coco Gauff, the No 6 seed, beat Kazakh Yulia Putintseva 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the third round of the Italian Open at the Foro Italico in Rome on Thursday afternoon.
Gauff, ranked No 5, will face the winner of the match between American Caty McNally and Czech Marie Bouzkova, the No 27 seed, next.
Putintseva, ranked No 51, won against Bulgarian qualifier Viktoriya Tomova (6-7 (5), 7-6 (3), 6-0) in the previous round in Rome.
