Italian Open: Zheng advances to quarter-finals

No 22 seed Qinwen Zheng beat Xiyu Wang 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to move into the last eight of the Italian Open at the Foro Italico in Rome on Monday.
Zheng, ranked No 21, will play the winner of the match between Czech Marie Bouzkova, the No 27 seed, and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 11 seed, next.
Qinwen Zheng won against Frenchwoman Alize Cornet (6-3, 7-6 (2)) and Hungarian qualifier Anna Bondar (7-6 (2), 6-4) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Wang, ranked No 75, won against Italian wildcard Lucrezia Stefanini (7-6 (2), 7-6 (2)), Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, the No 31 seed (6-4, 7-5) and American qualifier Taylor Townsend (6-2, 0-6, 7-5).
